Nasty Worm Poses As Internet Explorer
April 2nd, 2007
There’s a new worm out and you should NOT download it. The internet security company has warned email users of a widespread malicious attack that poses as an invitation from Microsoft to download a beta version of Internet Explorer 7.0.
According to Sophos the emails, which claim to come from admin@microsoft.com and have the subject line “Internet Explorer 7 Downloads”, display an image which invites users to download beta 2 of Internet Explorer 7. However, users who click on the image will download a file called ie7.0.exe which is infected by the W32/Grum-A worm.
So be very careful about what you open in your inbox. A large amount of what you get is either spam or malicious software. You would be surprised how many people get infected with all these things just because they don’t seem to think twice.
