You Could Lose Everything
November 7th, 2006
I’m not bullshitting you. If you don’t protect your PC you could easily lose all your work, software and whatever you got. I see this over and over. People say “well I don’t surf sites where you can get a virus” and that is bullshit. You would be surprised if you knew which sites are using nasty software. Here’s a short list of what I’m using to keep people away from my PC so they don’t steal my money on my credit card, use it for DoS attacks, ect.
When you browse a web page you don’t see something being installed if you don’t protect yourself. Those kind of things are installed without any kind of notice. I use SpywareBlaster which is a fantastic piece of software. It prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted software. Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox. Restrict the actions of potentially unwanted sites in Internet Explorer. Click here to read more about SpywareBlaster (It’s free to use).
I also use Ad-Aware (which is also free to use and download) every now and then. Since it’s free there’s no need to not use it. You can read more about it here.
My Anti Virus software is Norton from Symantec. So far it has done the job very well. I know some people don’t like but I like it. It’s easy to use, very fast and it’s stopping pretty much everything the jerks are trying to install on my PC, of course hand in hand with SpywareBlaster.
Last but not least, I also use Windows Defender made by Microsoft. Windows Defender is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software.
You should take a look at Tucows to see if they got some software listed you like. They got some Spyware Cleaner suggestions and Preventions.
You should also read my FAQ.
That’s what I use and I could use a bit more if I could fit it in. I work with the internet many hours each day and see a lot of spyware on all kinds of sites. Don’t for a minute think it’s only porn sites who’s using thar kind of software. Browse my links and see if there’s anything you can use. And stick to names you know. Don’t go for programs named things like “Win 2000 Plus Attacker”. Norton, Kaspersky, McAfee, BullGuard, ect are perfectly fine for your needs.
